YEMEN | Mocha Haraz

■ FLAVOR COMMENT

It has a floral aroma reminiscent of lilies and flavors of lemon and juicy grapes. Its fruitiness is reminiscent of stone fruits like yellow peaches and ripe cherries, with a sweet and vibrant spicy aftertaste of vanilla and cloves and a hint of herbal nuances. Its complex acidity, typical of Yemen, and its rich, wine-like flavor make it an impressive coffee.

■ INFORMATION

Haraz is located in the northwestern highlands of Yemen, at an altitude of 2,400m, and is a high and cold region. The area around Haraz is rich in volcanic soil, and Haraz coffee is generally known as a producer of high-quality Yemeni coffee.

Shams means "sun" in the local language, and this product is made from carefully selected coffee grown in the Haraz region where Gharib and Abdo live. The region where they live is at a high altitude, and the sun feels very close. Just like their coffee, which is illuminated by the dazzling sun, this product was named with the hope that it will shine a light on roasters in Japan and spread widely.

Although it is made using natural methods, it has a very bright acidity, is as bright as the sun, and has a warm, cozy feel.

Yemen is the only coffee-producing country in the Middle East, located on the western side of the Arabian Peninsula, bordered by Saudi Arabia to the north and east. Arabic is the primary language spoken, and 99% of the population is Muslim. Coffee is one of Yemen's major agricultural products, with 300,000 farmers. Many of these farmers make their living from coffee cultivation as a family business, averaging one acre each, making them what are known as small-scale farmers.
