PERU | Basul Inka Geisha

■ FLAVOR COMMENT
Because its genetic information includes that of Kenya's SL-9, its flavor characteristics are similar to those of Kenya. The juicy flavor profile, reminiscent of lavender, apricot, blackberry, and raisin, evokes the colors of the sky at sunset.
The tartaric and lactic acid notes suggest a juicy character typical of Kenyan coffees. This particular variety, which has moved to the Andes Mountains in South America, allows you to fully appreciate why it is known as Inka Gesha by the locals.
■ FLAVOR NOTE
Lavender, Blackberry, Apricot, Raisin
■ INFORMATION
The BASUL farm, owned by producer Profeta, is located in Incahuasi County, La Convención Department. Nestled in the Andes Mountains, the farm sits at an altitude of 2,260m, and its rich volcanic soil and harsh environment provide one of the best conditions for producing the beautiful flavors of coffee. This particular variety is known locally as Inka Gesha, but a 2022 World Coffee Research study revealed that its genetic information includes Kenyan SL-9.
SL-9, which is no longer cultivated in Kenya, is grown in the Andes climate across the sea, and through the Aini (mutual assistance) and Minka (collaborative work) traditions that have continued since the Inca Empire, you can enjoy a beautiful quality that the locals call "Gesha."
